Florida statute defines it as fingerprint-based screening covering state criminal history through FDLE and national criminal history through the FBI, and it applies to anyone in a position of special trust — roles involving children, the elderly, or people with disabilities. When an employer or board says “you need Level 2,” they are pointing at that statutory definition.
Because it's a standard rather than a single process, Level 2 screening runs through whichever agency governs your role. Healthcare employment goes through AHCA. Childcare and foster care go through DCF. Professional licences go through DBPR or the Department of Health. Schools go through the district. All of them are Level 2 — they just route to different places, and the routing is what we verify before capturing anything.

Fingerprinting requests arrive with a deadline attached more often than not, and Boca Raton residents are usually working against one. Level 1 is a name-based database search using your name and date of birth. It's quick, it's cheap, and for most Florida licensing and employment purposes it is not what's being asked for. Level 2 is fingerprint-based and reaches both state and national records. A Level 1 result will not close out a Level 2 requirement, no matter how recently it was run, because the two are not the same search.
It's also worth understanding that AHCA screening is one type of Florida Level 2 screening, not a different thing. If you work in licensed healthcare, your Level 2 runs through the Agency for Health Care Administration and the result is deposited in the Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse. Same statutory standard, specific agency route. The same is true of DCF, APD, and Department of Health screening — all Level 2, each with its own ORI.
Employers occasionally run a name search and assume it satisfies a statutory Level 2 requirement. It doesn't.

A Level 2 for one purpose does not automatically satisfy another unless the agencies share a repository.
Processing takes a few business days. Screening the week you start puts the date at risk.
The capture itself is the quick part — roughly ten minutes at the scanner, a little longer when a photo or a printed card is involved. Electronic submissions leave our office the same day, so nothing sits waiting on a courier or a weekly batch run.
What happens after that is the agency's clock, not ours. State and federal processing typically returns a result within a few business days, and posting to a board or to the Clearinghouse follows from there. If you are working against a start date or a filing deadline, say so when you book from Boca Raton and we will tell you honestly whether the timeline is realistic rather than finding out later that it wasn't.

Not automatically. Agencies weigh the nature, timing, and relevance of an offence, and Florida provides a formal exemption process in many cases. That's a legal question rather than a fingerprinting one, and we don't advise on it.
It depends on the agency. Clearinghouse results carry a retention period while your status is kept current; other routes want a result issued within the past six to twelve months. Check the requirement rather than assuming.
